What is a chemical injector?

A valve device in a pressure washer that pulls cleaning solution from a reservoir and mixes it into the water stream at a set ratio before discharge.

A chemical injector is a valve assembly mounted on or within a pressure washer that automatically draws cleaning solution from a separate reservoir and introduces it into the pressurized water stream. The injector operates by creating a slight vacuum (venturi effect) as water flows past it, which pulls the solution in at a precise ratio and blends it into the outgoing stream.

Injectors come in two main configurations: downstream injectors, which pull solution after the pump has pressurized the water, and upstream injectors, which draw solution before pressurization. Downstream injectors are more common on hot and cold water machines used for residential work because they protect the pump from corrosion and handle lower-concentration solutions easily. Upstream injectors work on unheated systems and allow for stronger chemical mixtures.

The ratio at which solution flows into the water is typically adjustable, controlled by varying the size of the orifice or by dial settings on the injector itself. This matters for pressure washing jobs in Myrtle Beach because different surfaces require different chemical strengths.
